THCPO: Potency that turns heads

At the beginning was the THCP

The precursor to THCPO is THCP, a potent cannabinoid with psychoactive effects, which we have already introduced on our blog. A chemical modification of THCP called acylation produced tetrahydrocannabiphorol acetate, or THCPO for short. Scientists have only recently been able to synthesise this cannabinoid, in 2021, but you would be looking for it in the cannabis plant in vain, as it is only produced in the laboratory.

By modifying the chemical structure, it is not only possible to amplify the potency of the cannabinoid, but also to increase its resistance and durability. THCPO is better able to withstand both heat and oxygen, which is useful in the inhospitable conditions of the tropical rainforest.

What is the power of THCPO? It has an alkyl chain consisting of seven carbons like THCP, and its intensity has been enhanced by the addition of an acetyl group. Recall that the well-known psychoactive cannabinoid THC has a shorter side chain of only five carbons. The longer the rope you swing on, the further it will carry you, but you may also end up hitting it that much harder.

THCPO: A cannabinoid only for the strong-minded?

As mentioned, the cannabinoid THCPO is a close relative of THCP. There's no hiding in the cannabis jungle either, so when news emerged in 2019 that THCP exhibits up to 33 times more activity at CB1 receptors in the endocannabinoid system than delta-9 THC, it caused quite a stir. Like THC and THCP, THCPO acts as an agonist at CB1 receptors in the brain, thereby inducing psychotropic effects.

Parrots squawk that THCPO is 30 times more potent than delta-9 THC. Other fauna take this claim with a grain of salt, yet some animals prefer to stick to the tried and tested classics, the cannabinoids CBD, CBG and CBN

Someone reportedly saw pandas who had tried THCPO swinging upside down on a branch and laughing loudly. THCPO produced strong euphoric feelings, intoxication and relaxation. Another saw a tiger that suddenly fell asleep, even though a herd of deer was grazing right in front of it. The THCPO made him feel drowsier than hungry. Such effects can reportedly last for more than eight hours.

The information we are currently hearing about THCPO is not scientifically verified. Most of it comes from those who have dared to try this powerful cannabinoid. Other reports come to us from adventurers who have experience with similarly modified cannabinoids such as THC-O or HHC-O.

Side effects of THCPO

Cannabis compounds can cause side effects in some individuals. These are particularly likely if too high a dose of cannabinoid is ingested. What side effects can occur?

  • Red eyes
  • dry mouth
  • anxiety
  • increased appetite
  • drowsiness
  • paranoia

If you've tried THCPO, then eaten three bunches of bananas and you're still hungry, spotted a lion riding an elephant, or have eyes like a night monkey, it's time to take a cold shower, drink some water, go for a walk, or chew on a few pepper balls and wait for the side effects of THCPO to subside. This should happen within a few hours.

From the cannabis lab to the world

You're probably wondering if the cannabis lab has already uncovered the secret about the newly discovered cannabinoid THCPO. Yes, adventurers returning from expeditions report encountering vapes and cartridges on their travels that contain THCPO in combination with other cannabinoids such as HHC-P or THCP. Some have also seen THCPO hash and gummies.

One explorer also boasted of finding flowers. But don't be fooled, as mentioned, you won't find a cannabis plant with THCPO flowers in the jungle. In fact, they were CBD flowers infused with THCPO distillate. Which doesn't take away from their beauty or potency.

It's very likely that THCPO products will soon be in your neck of the woods. Even if you dare to confront the wild beast, remember that this time you are dealing with a whole pack whose behaviour cannot be predicted. Don't overestimate your strength and take your wits into your own hands, lest your desire for adventure cost you your health. Only buy from reliable and experienced retailers. Ensure that the products have been laboratory tested and are free of any unwanted substances.
